Affordable Housing
One way Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church answers the Biblical call to house the unhoused and welcome the stranger is through the congregation’s advocacy for affordable housing. As a member of the Washington Interfaith Network’s Ward 3 Affordable Housing Group, we join with four other faith communities (Adas Israel, Temple Sinai, St. Columba’s Episcopal, and National United Methodist) to focus on the DC neighborhoods around CCPC. Because our church was built in a neighborhood originally designed to exclude Black residents, we pursue this work in part to rectify historic racial inequality in Chevy Chase.
As part of WIN Ward 3, we have canvassed our neighborhood, contacted local officials, hosted community meetings, testified at DC Council hearings, and worked in coalition with other advocacy groups supporting affordable housing. A priority in 2023/2024 is to see affordable housing built as part of the Civic Core—a DC government project that will encompass a new Chevy Chase Library and Community Center just two blocks from our church.
Rev. Molly Blythe Teichert joined with clergy from the other four congregations to publish an Op-Ed in support of this project. Read it here:
